University of Minnesota Program

The University of Minnesota Vascular Surgery Integrated Residency program offers two ACGME-accredited pathways: a five-year residency for medical school graduates and a two-year fellowship for graduates of ACGME accredited general surgery residency programs. Residents become certified by the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery upon completion. The program provides diverse clinical rotations across five hospitals, covering a wide range of vascular pathology. Training includes open operations, endovascular procedures, noninvasive laboratory interpretation, and medical treatment of vascular disease. The program is located in Minneapolis, adjacent to St. Paul, offering an excellent quality of life and numerous recreational opportunities across all four seasons. The program participates in ERAS and supports J-1 visas for foreign national trainees. Applicants are required to undergo core surgical training for the first two years. Clinical research opportunities are available, and residents are encouraged to choose a research project before the fourth year of training. Weekly didactic training activities in vascular surgery include various conferences, such as a Multidisciplinary Conference, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Vascular Conference, Journal Club, and more. The stipend for PGY-1 residents at the integrated program starts at Stipend Step 1, which includes additional perks like on-site parking, access to technology products, and more. The program faculty consists of board-certified vascular surgeons at all affiliated hospitals, along with mid-level providers. Interviews for the program are held virtually, with specific dates set for applicant interviews.
