As one of the five original integrated plastic surgery programs, it offers a unique apprenticeship model of surgical education with a strong emphasis on mentorship and early exposure to plastic surgery.

During the six years of training, residents at this program will have nearly five years dedicated to plastic surgery training. The program maintains full accreditation since 1995 and participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), accepting one to two graduating medical students each year.

Key Program Highlights: - Emphasis on plastic surgery with dedicated training time - Focused off-service curriculum covering various surgical subspecialties - Early operative experience with hands-on involvement - Learning from faculty who are leaders in the field - Mentorship and regular feedback throughout the program - Academic engagement encouraged with research opportunities and support

Application Requirements: - Applications are only accepted through ERAS with no supplemental application - Required documents include a personal statement, three letters of recommendation (preferably from board-certified plastic surgeons), transcripts, USMLE scores, and a recent photograph - Review of ERAS applications starts in September, and applications must be complete by November 1 for consideration for an interview

The residents' curriculum includes significant exposure to plastic surgery throughout the six years of training, complemented by off-service rotations to enhance core knowledge. Residents are actively involved in clinical activities, from preoperative evaluation to postoperative care, with increasing responsibilities based on skill development.

Overall, the University of Missouri-Columbia Plastic Surgery residency program offers a comprehensive and structured training experience for aspiring plastic surgeons, emphasizing mentorship, early hands-on experience, and a robust educational curriculum.
