The Allergy & Immunology Residency Training Program at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine is the first and only training program in the island. It is located in the Puerto Rico Medical Center, a large tertiary and supra-tertiary care facility with affiliations with various hospitals, providing a diverse educational experience. The program, fully accredited by the ACGME, recruits one fellow per year for the two-year training program.
Residents in the program are trained to work proficiently as allergists/immunologists in various settings, including academic medicine, clinical research, and private practice. Residents participate in various clinical settings, including pediatric and adult patient care, and engage in research projects on various topics related to Allergy & Immunology.
The main participating hospitals include the University Hospital and San Jorge Hospital. Ambulatory clinics are conducted at UPR School of Medicine facilities with access to necessary equipment and resources for training. Requirements for admission to the program include approval of USMLE Steps I, II, and III, fluency in English and Spanish, and submission of specified documents by a set deadline.
