Overview of the Dermatology Residency Program

The Dermatology Residency Program at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine is committed to providing an organized educational experience that prepares residents for competent and independent practice in dermatology. González Martínez Oncologic Hospital, University of Puerto Rico Hospital at Carolina, and the Latin American Center for Sexually-Transmitted Diseases.1

Application Requirements

The selection process for the residency involves a committee assessing various candidate qualifications. Applications must be submitted via the ERAS system by December 1 for the upcoming academic year. A complete application is necessary for review, and interviews are conducted by invitation between December and February.3

Eligibility criteria for applicants include:

• Graduation from an LCME-accredited medical school in the U.S. or Canada.
• Completion of the NRMP application form and ERAS application.
• Possession of a valid medical practice license in Puerto Rico.
• Submission of USMLE results.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited first postgraduate year (PGY-I) in a relevant clinical specialty.
• Proficiency in both English and Spanish.
• For international medical graduates, an ECFMG certification and a certified copy of the medical diploma are required.4

Clinical Rotations
