Application requirements include submitting through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), providing your USMLE Transcript, three letters of recommendation (one of which must be a Dean's letter or equivalent summative assessment), and a statement of personal goals. The program selects a group of applicants for personal interviews in the late fall and winter months.

The Vascular Surgery Residency program at UT Southwestern aims to provide a comprehensive 5-year curriculum covering tertiary, secondary, and primary care of vascular diseases. Residents will rotate through various hospitals, including William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Parkland Hospital, and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The training includes exposure to a wide range of operative techniques and emphasizes academic medicine.

Residents in this program participate in rotations in Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, ICU, Radiology/Interventional Radiology, Vascular Medicine/Cardiology, and Podiatry during the PGY 1-3 years. The PGY 4 and 5 years are dedicated to Vascular Surgery, where residents manage their assigned service, provide supervision for junior residents, and see patients in the outpatient clinic weekly.

Trainees are expected to attend educational conferences, participate in simulations, and take the Vascular Surgery In-Training Examination during all five years of training. Residents must pass the ARDMS registry examination for Physician Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) to sit for the Vascular Surgery Certifying Board Exam.

The program aims to produce independent practitioners who will become leaders locally and nationally in community or academic practice. Professionalism and maintaining high standards of behavior in all interactions are emphasized throughout the training.
