Residency Advisor

The Family Medicine Residency Program at Allegheny Health Network, based at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, is designed to provide a comprehensive training experience over a three-year period (PGY1-PGY3). With eight residents accepted each year, the program accommodates a total of 24 residents, ensuring a focused and personalized educational journey.

In the second year, residents expand their responsibilities and knowledge, focusing on core family medicine topics, while also beginning roles as supervisors for first-year residents. By the third year, residents engage in advanced clinical practices, working extensively in the Forbes Family Medicine Center and selecting from a broad array of electives.

Application Information and Requirements

To apply for the Family Medicine Residency Program, candidates must submit their applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) by the deadline of December 31. The program follows an 8-8-8 model, accepting a diverse mix of MD and DO residents each year. Applicants are expected to have a minimum USMLE score of 210 on either Step 1 or Step 2, or COMLEX scores of at least 500 for osteopathic candidates, with no more than two attempts on the exams. Candidates must graduated from medical school no more than three years before applying and must arrange hands-on US or equivalent experience.
