The BayCare Pediatrics Residency Program, based out of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa, FL, is designed to cater to the medical training needs of future pediatricians, accepting eight residents per year. It is a program focused on community care, aiming to serve children and their families throughout West Central Florida, across the BayCare Health System's network of hospitals and outpatient centers. Being a new program, it offers opportunities for innovation and program development, emphasizing a culture of continuous learning and improvement. The program encourages the involvement and contribution of ideas by its residents towards its design and structure.

The program leaders and core faculty boast substantial backgrounds in pediatrics and related subspecialties, ensuring a supportive and enriching learning environment. The curriculum includes a series of rotations across a broad spectrum of pediatric care, including general pediatrics, pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric gastroenterology, inpatient pediatrics, and more, structured over thirteen four-week blocks each year with varying schedules based on the training track.

Didactic training is an integral part of the program, featuring Morning Reports, an Academic Half Day every Wednesday centered around the American Board of Pediatrics' recommended topics for board certification, Board Review sessions, a monthly Journal Club, and Grand Rounds presented virtually to round out a comprehensive learning experience.

Residents in the program are supported with a competitive salary (starting at $60,770 for PGY-1 residents, plus a $1,500 commencement bonus), comprehensive benefits, an education allowance (starting at $1,000 for PGY-1 residents), technology stipends, in-house meal provision, and other professional resources including coverage for board exam fees, Florida licensing, and DEA expenses. The program actively encourages wellness and work-life balance among its residents.

Applications for the BayCare Pediatrics Residency Program are accepted and reviewed through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and candidates are selected via the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The program requires applicants to submit a CV, personal statement, medical school transcripts, MSPE or Dean's letter, official USMLE (Steps 1, 2CK, and 2CS) or COMLEX (Levels 1, 2-CE, and 2-PE) transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and, if applicable, an ECFMG certificate. Applicants must be within two years of graduation from medical school at the time of application. It's noted that initially, BayCare residency programs will not consider applications from those requiring J1 or H1B visa sponsorship.

This program is a fit for those inspired by the mission to provide top-tier, community-focused pediatric care and interested in being part of a growing, innovative program within a well-regarded health system in Florida.
