Nephrology Fellowship Program Overview

The Nephrology Fellowship Program at Broward Health North is a comprehensive two-year fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. This program emphasizes all aspects of kidney disease, including glomerular diseases, complex acid-base and electrolyte disturbances, pregnancy-related kidney disease, and critical care nephrology. A significant component of the fellowship involves exposure to kidney transplant services at the South Florida Transplant Center, providing fellows with a well-rounded clinical experience in nephrology.

Clinical Rotations

The clinical training for fellows spans several prestigious facilities, including the Broward Health Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and Broward Health North, which is a Level 2 Trauma Center. Additional rotation sites include Florida Kidney Physicians, an outpatient dialysis center, and the Cleveland Clinic. These diverse settings offer fellows extensive clinical exposure and hands-on learning opportunities, tailored to develop their competencies in a variety of nephrology aspects.

Educational Environment

The program is designed to foster mastery in nephrology knowledge and skills, crucial for developing competent, compassionate nephrologists. The mentorship provided by experienced faculty is a cornerstone of the training, along with access to educational resources including memberships to professional organizations such as the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), the National Kidney Foundation, and the Florida Society of Nephrology.

Application Process

Applications for the Nephrology Fellowship Program are exclusively processed through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and the program does not accept applications via fax, email, or postal service. The following materials are required for a successful application:

  • ERAS Common Application Form
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • Personal Statement
  • Recent Photograph
  • A minimum of three (3) Letters of Recommendation
  • USMLE Transcripts and/or COMLEX Transcripts, indicating passed Step 1 and Step 2

A passing score on USMLE Step 1 is a prerequisite for an interview invitation, while Step 2 CK passage is necessary for ranking purposes. All interviews for the current application cycle will be conducted virtually, in alignment with the National Residency Matching Program's protocols.
