The Sierra Nevada Family Medicine Residency Program is an integrated rural training program affiliated with the Dignity Health Methodist Hospital of Sacramento Family Medicine Residency Program. Residents will complete their intern year at Methodist Hospital and Mercy Family Medical Clinic in Sacramento, CA, followed by training at Chapa-De Indian Health Clinic, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, and local subspecialty outpatient offices in Grass Valley, CA.
The program focuses on training well-rounded family physicians in underserved rural communities, emphasizing health equity and community-based training. The curriculum includes an inpatient heavy intern year to prepare residents for rural training in PGY-2 and PGY-3. Additionally, the program offers opportunities for global health rotations and encourages experiences in reservations.
Facilities where residents will train include Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, Mercy Family Health Center, Chapa-De Indian Health in Auburn and Grass Valley, and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
The application process for PGY-1 FP resident applicants involves submission through ERAS with required materials such as a common application, personal statement, letters of recommendation, dean's letter, medical school transcript, and USMLE or COMLEX scores.
For the 2023-2024 interview season, the program will offer both virtual and in-person interviews at urban and rural sites. Second looks will be available, and each track has its NRMP code for the Match.
