The Sutter Health Rural Program located in Jackson, CA, offers a Family Medicine Rural Residency Track in collaboration with Sutter Health Family Medicine Residency Program in Sacramento. This program is a 1-2 program with the inaugural class starting in mid-June 2021. Residents will spend their first year in Sacramento and focus on rural Amador County for the second and third years, with training centered around the Family Medicine Continuity Clinic in Jackson, CA.

Rotations will include experiences in Inpatient and Emergency Medicine at Sutter Amador Hospital, along with various outpatient experiences designed longitudinally. Sutter Amador Hospital is a not-for-profit rural hospital with 52 beds, serving a population of over 45,000 in Amador County.

The program aims to provide training that integrates a unique rural perspective on healthcare issues, offering residents the opportunity to serve a culturally diverse population facing complex health disparities. By partnering with local clinicians and organizations, residents will receive excellent training to become community-oriented Family Medicine physicians and healthcare leaders of the future.

Dr. Jennifer Shoemaker, the Track Director, welcomes applicants to the community and looks forward to engaging interactions as they explore the field of rural medicine together.
