Internal Medicine Residency Overview

The Internal Medicine Residency at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital offers a rigorous and comprehensive training program for aspiring internists. Established in 2015, the program has rapidly grown and traditionally accepts seven residents annually, with plans for continued expansion. This 420-bed health facility is recognized for its quality care and a diverse patient population, serving as a crucial healthcare provider in southern Michigan.

Training Environment

Henry Ford Jackson Hospital is a designated Level II Trauma Center, featuring a fully functional emergency room that services approximately 90,000 patients each year. • PGY-3: Focuses on academic growth through expanded elective rotations and leadership training, including quality improvement (QI) and research projects.

The program also includes a 3+1 schedule where residents spend one week per month in outpatient settings at the Internal Medicine clinic, gaining continuity of care experience.

Research Opportunities

Residents are encouraged to participate in research and quality improvement initiatives. A requirement for graduation is the completion of a QI project, with opportunities to present at national conferences. Current research topics range from the appropriateness of oncology consults to inpatient management strategies.
