The Vascular Surgery Residency Program at Indiana University School of Medicine is a comprehensive five-year training that includes two dedicated years of required professional development time. Clinical experiences are provided by IU Health, Eskenazi Health, and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, offering exposure to a wide range of surgical practices. Graduates transition seamlessly to academic or private practice settings in urban or rural areas.
Application requirements for U.S. graduates include a completed ERAS application with a photo, three letters of recommendation (one from a surgery program chair or director), USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK scores, medical school transcript, and a personal statement. For foreign medical graduates, the requirements include an ECFMG certificate acquired at least 60 days before the residency start date. The program only sponsors J1 visas.
The curriculum includes rotations in various specialties, such as transplant, trauma, surgical intensive care, thoracic, urology, and more, with a focus on vascular surgery in later years. Residents gain experience in open and endovascular procedures and have opportunities to attend conferences and courses.
The program offers three interview dates for the 2024 NRMP Match Season. For international medical graduates, it is essential not to be more than two years removed from medical school training and to have the required ECFMG certificate.
Residents are encouraged to develop their personal and professional growth, supported by faculty and ample flexibility. The chief resident in the final year plays a role in training and has access to professional development opportunities.
