The Loma Linda University Health Education Consortium Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program is designed to cultivate well-rounded and competent physicians capable of addressing healthcare needs in their communities. Program Overview

With 36 current residents and a teaching faculty of 50, the program fosters a collaborative learning environment where residents gain hands-on experience in diverse clinical settings. The dual training at Loma Linda University Medical Center and Riverside University Health System Medical Center allows residents to care for a varied patient population and prepares them for a spectrum of clinical practices. Subspecialty rotations such as Gynecologic Oncology, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility are integral components of the residency curriculum, starting in the first year to enhance early exposure to gynecologic surgery

Curriculum

The curriculum of the program consists of progressive training and supervised learning opportunities that equip residents to handle complexities in women's health. The residents are immersed in various specialties, engaging in direct patient care that encompasses traditional and subspecialty OB-GYN practices. Notably, significant time is allocated to community clinics to experience the social determinants of health firsthand, which is crucial for a well-rounded medical education.

Training includes structured didactics, simulation labs, and a robust research curriculum, encouraging innovation and scientific inquiry. The program provides a unique international health rotation in Malawi, allowing residents to glean experience in resource-limited settings, thereby sharpening their clinical skills while tackling challenges faced in lower-middle-income countries.

Research Opportunities

Residents are supported in pursuing research projects tailored to their interests, with dedicated mentorship ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute to scholarly work throughout their training. Research spans various fields within obstetrics and gynecology and includes opportunities for publication and presentation at medical conferences.

Application Process and Requirements

The residency program is notably competitive and welcomes applications from graduates of both U.S. and international medical schools. A holistic review approach ensures alignment with the institution's mission and values. Applicants are advised to meet specific minimum criteria including a USMLE Step 1 score of 200 or above and must submit all application materials through the ERAS platform.

Particularly, the program encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply and highlights that it is DO-friendly and IMG-friendly. An important stipulation is that prospective residents need to have a valid work permit prior to matching or acceptance into the program. The types of visas supported include J-1 visas for international medical graduates and existing H-1B visas if applicable.

• SAC Health System: A Federally Qualified Health Center where residents engage in continuity clinics with medically underserved populations.
