Madigan Army Medical Center Program

Obstetrics and gynecology - Tacoma, WA | ACGME Code: 2205412010

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Madigan Army Medical Center is highly regarded as one of the premier post-graduate medical teaching centers in the Department of Defense. It offers state-of-the-art facilities for women's health care and has a strong emphasis on clinical medicine and research. The program is fully accredited by the RRC and trains four residents per year.

Residents at Madigan have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of obstetric and gynecologic health concerns due to the large active-duty, dependent, and retiree population in the area. The majority of residency rotations take place at Madigan, with additional rotations at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma for benign gynecology and gynecologic oncology in later years.

The program provides comprehensive training through didactic education, surgery/skill labs, and exposure to academic conferences and lectures. Residents also benefit from working with fellows in the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship and gaining experience with obstetric ultrasound.

All residents are required to conduct a research project before graduation, and the program offers support for presenting research at national meetings. Military medical students interested in applying are encouraged to rotate on-site to enhance their chances of selection.

For those interested in applying, it is recommended to contact the Residency Program Coordinator for information on setting up a 4th-year rotation to evaluate candidacy based on knowledge base, commitment, work ethic, and communication skills.
