The MGH Department of Radiology offers a robust training environment with exposure to diverse disease states, thanks to its affiliation with Harvard Medical School. The program prioritizes resident education, with 18 Interventional Radiologists among the 120 faculty members. Residents benefit from a high volume of diagnostic examinations and interventional procedures performed annually.
Clinical training occurs at MGH, a Level 1 trauma center with prestigious specialty programs. The interventional facilities include numerous procedure suites equipped with digital technology. The curriculum is structured to provide a strong clinical foundation and comprehensive exposure to Interventional Radiology procedures, supported by daily teaching conferences.
Residents complete a Clinical Internship during PGY 1 followed by Diagnostic Radiology rotations from PGY 2-4. The subsequent PGY 5-6 years focus on advanced Interventional Radiology training including rotations in various subspecialties. Upon completion of training, residents are eligible for the American Board of Radiology IR/DR certificate.
Additionally, MGH offers an Independent Pathway for qualified individuals who have completed an Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) program during their Diagnostic Radiology residency.
