Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Program

The Interventional Radiology Integrated Residency Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a five-year rigorous program designed to train future Interventional Radiologists. This program consists of an internship year followed by three years of Diagnostic Radiology training and two years of Interventional Radiology training. At the completion of the program, graduates will receive a combined IR/DR certificate from the American Board of Radiology.

BIDMC offers two positions for the IR Integrated Residency program in the Match. Residents will undergo rotations in core diagnostic sub-specialties, interventional radiology, and various procedural rotations. The program places a strong emphasis on individualized teaching in procedural techniques and supportive resident education.

The Interventional Radiology section at BIDMC is supported by 12 full-time, fellowship-trained IR attending physicians. The facilities include state-of-the-art equipment and dedicated outpatient IR clinic rooms for patient care. The IR physicians at BIDMC perform a wide range of IR procedures, including advanced biliary interventions, interventional oncology, hepatic interventions, arterial and venous interventions, hemodialysis care, urologic interventions, women's health, men's health, and more.

The curriculum for IR Integrated residents includes daily core rotations, involvement in patient care from consultation to follow-up, exposure to a wide range of procedures, and participation in educational conferences, research opportunities, and quality improvement projects. Residents also have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects and scholarly activities. The program provides a comprehensive educational experience to prepare residents for a successful career in Interventional Radiology.

The application to the IR Integrated Residency at BIDMC is submitted through the NRMP match via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants must complete a preliminary year in medicine, surgery, or a transitional program as required by the American Board of Radiology. Application requirements include a complete ERAS application, official USMLE scores, transcripts, MSPE, CV, and letters of recommendation. The application deadline is October 1st, and interviews are scheduled from mid-November through late December.
