The McLaren Health Care/Oakland/MSU Program offers a comprehensive PGY-2 residency experience for Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery residents. During the PGY-2 year, residents divide their time between various clinical settings, including the outpatient department, operating room, emergency department, and hospitals. They also spend time in the clinic, conducting patient evaluations, pre and post-operative care, and performing procedures like biopsies, nasal hemorrhage control, and abscess drainage. Residents gain hands-on experience in procedures such as tonsillectomy, myringotomy, laryngoscopy, and excisions, under direct attending supervision.
The program provides a structured schedule, with the majority of the PGY-2 year spent at McLaren Oakland under the mentorship of experienced faculty. Residents also rotate through Lakeshore ENT, Karmanos Cancer Institute, and engage in dedicated research for one month. Additionally, residents take on-call duties for both North Oakland ENT and Lakeshore ENT, covering various otolaryngological conditions, including maxillofacial trauma under a Facial Trauma attending.

Residents have the chance to work closely with faculty preceptors and participate in patient care, teaching medical students, and engaging in research endeavors.
