The Nuvance Health Transitional Year Residency Program offers a comprehensive training experience covering multiple clinical disciplines, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Family Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. Residents have the opportunity to complete core rotations in surgery, medicine, ICU, and ER to develop broad medical knowledge and patient care skills.
This program is 13 blocks in length and functions under the sponsorship of the Nuvance Health General Surgery Residency Program and Internal Medicine Residency Program. Residents rotate through diverse general surgery and internal medicine rotations, emergency medicine, ambulatory care, and elective rotations. Elective options include anesthesiology, neurology, research, surgery, surgery subspecialties, pulmonary medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, radiology, and other rotations agreed upon with the Program Director.
The program emphasizes wellness, a productive learning environment, and hands-on training. Residents are supported by dedicated faculty from various specialties. The Program Director customizes each resident's schedule, procedure requirements, and evaluation schedule based on their future specialty.
To apply, interested candidates must provide proof of U.S. medical school graduation, USMLE or COMLEX scores, MSPE (Dean’s) letter, three letters of recommendation, personal statement, and current CV through the ERAS application portal. The program accepts applications from foreign nationals who are holders of a Green Card (permanent resident) only.
Interviews are conducted virtually for the academic year 2023-2024. The program supports residents in scholarly activities, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives. Residents present their findings at the Annual Resident Research Day. Dedicated didactic sessions and academic curriculum help residents prepare for their specialty.
