The Steward Carney Hospital Transitional Year Residency Program in Dorchester, MA, is a part of the Steward Family Hospital network and participates in ERAS for application submissions. The deadline for applications is November 15th. Required application documents include a common application form, CV, ECFMG status report, medical school transcript, dean's letter, USMLE or COMLEX transcripts, personal statement, and three letters of recommendation.
For U.S. graduates, a Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited U.S. medical school is required. For International Medical Graduates (IMGs), passing both parts I and II of the USMLE on the first attempt is necessary. Applicants should ideally have scores of 220 or greater, passed USMLE Step II CS on the first attempt, and have some clinical experience at a U.S. accredited institution.
The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program match, offering 7 transitional year positions. They accept both IMGs and DOs. Applicants should have passed USMLE parts I and II with a score of 220 or higher on the first attempt, along with passing USMLE Step II CS on the first attempt. Graduates within the past five years are strongly preferred, and U.S. clinical experience of at least one month is expected.
The program sponsors J-1 visas but not H-1 visas, with applicants responsible for processing costs. They do not offer observerships or externships. Applicants will be notified of interview status via email, and interviews are held between November and January following a structured format including interactions with faculty and residents.
