The Boston University Medical Center Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program is fully accredited by the ACGME and the RRC. The program has 25 residents, with five residents accepted per year through the NRMP into two separate programs. There are four traditional five-year positions and one six-year position which includes a basic science research year focusing on skeletal tissue repair and osteoarthritis epidemiology. The internship year covers ACGME and ABOS Orthopaedic Program requirements, including various surgical specialties.
During the four years of orthopaedic experience, residents rotate through various hospitals like Boston Medical Center, Lahey Clinic, Boston VA Medical Center, and Boston Children’s Hospital. The program offers a structured educational curriculum including lectures, daily conferences, bioskills sessions, journal clubs, and visiting professor events. Residents are also involved in research, leading to national presentation and peer-reviewed publications. Each resident completes a comprehensive research project before graduation.
