The Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) was established in 2015 with the aim of providing a comprehensive experience in orthopedics within a supportive learning environment. This program offers a broad educational curriculum combined with extensive clinical exposure across various subspecialties such as sports medicine, spine surgery, pediatric orthopedics, fracture care, hand surgery, and joint replacement surgery. Residents take part in daily outpatient clinics and cover the Level I trauma service, engaging in a multidisciplinary hip fracture service.

Throughout the program, residents rotate through specific subspecialties of orthopedics to gain a focused experience that includes both outpatient and inpatient settings. They acquire training in operative and non-operative approaches for a wide range of orthopedic conditions under the guidance of experienced attending staff. Emphasis is placed on providing residents with graded responsibility to develop clinical decision-making skills and proficiency in performing various orthopedic procedures.

The didactic curriculum integrates basic and clinical sciences, with resident participation emphasized during teaching sessions and weekly grand rounds. The program also includes conferences covering diverse orthopedic topics such as journal club discussions, morbidity and mortality reviews, and physical exam reviews. Residents are encouraged to engage in research activities and participate in research mentor-led meetings to enhance their scholarly pursuits. Completion of research projects and publications are required of all residents to demonstrate scholarly activity.
