The Nassau University Medical Center Transitional Year Residency Program is a one-year ACGME accredited program designed to provide a balanced and comprehensive foundation of clinical skills for future categorical residency programs. The program accepts ten residents per academic year.
During the program, most training takes place at Nassau University Medical Center, primarily alongside the Emergency Medicine Residency. Residents participate in didactic lectures, Journal Club, M&M, and Grand Rounds to enhance their experience.
Core requirements include rotations in surgery, internal medicine, family medicine, OB/GYN, emergency medicine, and pediatric emergency medicine. Additionally, there are elective rotations tailored to meet residents' educational needs and future board certification requirements.
Upon completion of the Transitional Year Residency, graduates have successfully pursued categorical residency programs in various specialties such as anesthesiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, surgery, radiology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
