Summa Health System/NEOMED Program

The Summa Health Sports Medicine Fellowship is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program designed to prepare qualified physicians in the field of primary care sports medicine. The program, which accommodates two fellows each year, is integrated within the Department of Family Medicine, offering a comprehensive blend of clinical and didactic training.

Fellows are selected from candidates who have completed a primary training program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), or Internal Medicine/Pediatrics (IM/Peds). This inclusive policy allows both allopathic and osteopathic physicians to apply, making the program DO-friendly. The program prides itself on its diversity, welcoming international medical graduates who possess a valid ECFMG certificate, and who are applying for J-1 visa status exclusively, as this program only sponsors J-1 visas for international applicants.

Curriculum and Training

The curriculum encompasses a robust array of educational opportunities, particularly focusing on musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound training. During the fellowship, participants will become proficient in using ultrasound for diagnostic and procedural applications and will engage in independent learning and hands-on sessions led by experienced faculty.
