Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital Program

The General Surgery Residency program at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital is a five-year categorical program that aims to recruit individuals committed to excellence in patient care. They graduate five senior residents yearly from their freestanding, fully accredited program. Residents benefit from extensive operative experience, with over 12,000 procedures performed annually in the main operating suite. The program boasts compliance with ACGME duty hour restrictions.

Medical students from Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine, University of Toledo College of Medicine, and Eastern Michigan University Physician Assistant Program rotate through the department of surgery. Notably, the faculty is dedicated to teaching and to the success of the hospital and its programs.

Applicants to the program must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Eligible candidates must have graduated from medical school within 12 months or currently be enrolled in an ACGME accredited program. US graduates need to pass USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 on the first attempt, with a preferred score of 220 or greater. International graduates need a valid ECFMG certificate and at least two months of clinical rotations in a US hospital.

The program offers a range of clinical experiences including trauma, peripheral vascular, cardiac surgery, outpatient surgery, and clinic practice. General clinical care is complemented by specialized referral care to a large population in Southeastern Michigan.
