Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital Program

The Transitional Year Program at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, sponsored by Trinity Health Michigan, offers up to twelve first-year positions for physicians interested in entering a specialty requiring a broad-based clinical first graduate year. This program is also suitable for physicians who are undecided about their future medical goals. The program is well-regarded nationally, drawing highly qualified applicants from across the country, particularly for competitive fields like Radiology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Dermatology, and more.

To be eligible for this program, candidates should have graduated from medical school within 12 months of application. For USMLE, scores of 210 or above on the first attempt are preferred, or a COMLEX score of 520 or greater. International medical graduates must be ECFMG certified and eligible to work in the United States.

Applications to the Transitional Residency Program must be made through ERAS. The selection process for interviews is competitive, with virtual interview opportunities for the academic year 2022-2023 due to the pandemic. The program supports a wide range of electives and provides a comprehensive clinical training experience in multiple fields, with a focus on Internal Medicine.

Residents who have graduated from the Transitional Year Program have successfully matched into specialties like Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, and Radiation Oncology, returning to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as attending physicians.
