Trios Health Program

The Trios Health Family Medicine Residency Program located in Kennewick, Washington is a 36-month ACGME-accredited program designed to train well-rounded family physicians capable of delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. This program is a part of the WWAMI Family Medicine Residency Network, which spans across Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, and is recognized as one of the largest and most successful family medicine residency networks in the United States.

The program’s mission is to train diverse family physicians to provide excellent physical and behavioral primary health care to patients with a focus on underserved populations. Curriculum and Rotations

The training experience includes both inpatient and outpatient rotations. Notably, the residency clinic prioritizes continuity, allowing residents to know their scheduled clinic days in advance, thus embedding this clinic as the core of their training. In these clinics, residents gain extensive hands-on experience with evidence-based medicine and receive formative feedback on their clinical skills.

The dedicated curriculum covers various aspects of training including general medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, obstetrics, and psychiatry among others. Unique to this program is its emphasis on behavioral health, enabling residents to develop competencies in behavioral change strategies, which are vital for holistic patient care.

Didactics and Academic Support

The Trios Health Residency Program places significant value on didactics, with approximately five hours of learning embedded into the weekly schedule. This includes comprehensive board review sessions and participation in Journal Club, where residents discuss current research and clinical guidelines. Other didactic formats include noon conferences and specialized Friday sessions addressing diverse topics such as risk management, electronic health records, and community health.

Research Opportunities

Residents are encouraged and supported in scholarly activities and research. This includes opportunities to publish articles and participate in relevant conferences, allowing for contributions to the advancement of the medical field while enhancing resident education.

Application Requirements and Competitiveness

The program is regarded as competitive, welcoming both DO and IMG applicants. Any special application considerations include a maximum of two failed attempts on STEP exams and generally prefers applicants within a few years of graduation from medical school.
