The University of Central Florida/HCA Florida Healthcare (Ocala) Program has recently announced a new Anesthesiology Residency Program based at Ocala Regional Medical Center. The program has received initial accreditation and is seeking applicants who are completing their internships and will begin second-year training on July 1, 2018.
The Anesthesiology program is a three-year program approved for a total of 27 residents, with nine residents accepted per year. Residents will have the opportunity to rotate through multiple HCA sites, including North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, and Ocala Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Ettore Crimi, who completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital, will be directing the program. The UCF College of Medicine-Hospital Corporation of America consortium has brought multiple graduate medical education programs to Central and North Central Florida, training around 250 residents in locations like Gainesville, Ocala, and greater Orlando.
Furthermore, the partnership between UCF and HCA aims to add a total of 600 residency slots to the state of Florida by 2020. The Anesthesiology program at Ocala Regional Medical Center focuses on challenging residents to strive for clinical excellence and leadership in the field.
Ocala Regional Medical Center, a 222-bed facility and Verified Level II Trauma Center, offers various medical services including bariatric surgery, cardiac and vascular, emergency, neurological, and rehabilitation services. The medical center is accredited by several organizations, such as the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer and the Joint Commission's designation as a Primary Stroke Center.
Applications for the 2018-2019 academic year are now open and should be submitted through ERAS. Qualified applicants will be selected for interviews.
