The Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine is an ACGME accredited program that has been providing advanced training in orthopaedic surgery since 1998. In a typical week, fellows engage in approximately 10 to 15 surgical cases, allowing for substantial hands-on experience. They also provide postoperative care while participating in daily rounds across affiliated hospitals, reinforcing their clinical acumen through practical patient interaction.

Conferences and Clinics

Fellows actively participate in Adult Reconstruction Conferences and are integral to the Total Joint Clinic held in the Ambulatory Care Building. This weekly clinic experience includes seeing around 15 to 20 new patients each week. Additionally, fellows see 40 to 50 follow-up patients over two clinical days, all under faculty supervision. This comprehensive clinical curriculum is designed to enhance fellows' diagnostic and managerial skills in adult reconstruction.

Research Opportunities

The program emphasizes research as a critical component of the fellowship experience. Fellows are expected to engage in ongoing clinical projects or initiate their own clinical research in the adult reconstruction field. Each fellow is tasked with completing two research papers deemed suitable for publication during their year of training, thereby contributing to the academic body of knowledge in orthopaedic surgery and enhancing their research skills.
