Program Overview

The University of Miami/Jackson Health System Program in Critical Care Medicine (Anesthesiology) Fellowship offers advanced training for anesthesiology or emergency medicine residency graduates. Eligibility and Application Process

All positions in the fellowship are filled through the SF Match Program, with no out-of-match positions available. Applications are accepted via the SF Match's Central Application System, with deadlines ranging from October to February. Subsequent interviews occur between January and April. Candidates must successfully complete the United States Medical Licensing Examination Steps 1, 2, and 3 prior to the start of the program, as well as complete a residency in anesthesiology or emergency medicine that is accredited by ACGME.

Visa Support

The program sponsors the J1 Visa under the Alien Physician Program for international medical graduates (IMGs) who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This type of visa allows fellows to train in the United States while fulfilling all necessary eligibility requirements for the program.

Training Structure

The fellowship consists of a one or two-year clinical training pathway, during which fellows engage in comprehensive critical care experiences across multiple top-tier institutions. The primary training sites include Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Bruce W. Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with a dedicated emphasis on managing a variety of complex conditions in diverse patient populations.

Clinical Experience

Fellows gain exposure to various intensive care unit environments, including Cardiothoracic ICU, Neuroscience ICU, Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, and Trauma ICU. The multi-disciplinary training model allows fellows to participate in elective opportunities in fields such as Radiology, Nephrology, and Infectious Disease.

Didactic Curriculum

The fellowship incorporates extensive didactic education, with weekly lectures on core critical care subjects and journal clubs. Additionally, departmental grand rounds cover both anesthesia and critical care topics to ensure a comprehensive educational experience while fostering scholarly activities through individual mentoring to participate in research projects and publications.
