The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System's Family Medicine Residency Program offers a unique and exciting opportunity for individualized training at sites distributed throughout Virginia. Graduates will be trained to practice across the full spectrum of family medicine in various settings. Programs offered under the VCU Health - Community Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency include:

1. Fairfax Family Medicine Residency - Sponsored by the Inova Health System with inpatient experience at Inova-Fairfax and Inova-Fair Oaks hospitals. Located near Washington, D.C., this program provides extensive didactic instruction and diverse training opportunities.

2. Riverside Family Medicine Residency - Sponsored by the Riverside Health System with inpatient experience at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA. This program offers advanced technology, a supportive environment, and one-on-one teaching from a range of faculty members.

3. Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency - Serving Northern Virginia and parts of West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. This program is located in Front Royal and provides training at state-of-the-art ambulatory care facilities and award-winning hospitals.

4. St. Francis Family Medicine Residency Program - Sponsored by the Bon Secours Richmond Health System, this program offers rural and suburban medical practice experience with core rotations at St. Francis Medical Center.

The VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program focuses on producing community-centered family medicine physicians trained to address the medical needs of rural and underserved communities. The program includes comprehensive training in broad-scope family medicine, a focus on whole person care, and a commitment to promoting wellness and health equity.

The residency curriculum includes rotations in various specialties, patient-centered care, global health, community medicine, and systems changes. Residents will have dedicated time for educational activities, didactics, wellness initiatives, and scholarly projects.

Application to the program is done through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants must be within four years of graduation from medical school and submit required documentation, including an ERAS application, transcripts, and letters of recommendation.
