STEP 220Fellowship Focused

The Wellstar Health System/Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center Program in Orthopaedic Surgery is a well-established and respected residency program with a legacy of excellence and commitment to innovation. Founded over 50 years ago, the program focuses on teaching, research, and patient care across all eight subspecialties of orthopedics.

Residents in this program have access to a variety of research opportunities, including stem cell and biotechnology advancement, cohort reviews, bio-mechanics studies, and collaborations with institutions like Georgia State University. The presence of an on-campus anatomy lab enhances anatomical research within the program.

The curriculum is designed to prepare residents to practice independently and pass the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) specialty board certification examinations. Residents follow the Orthobullets "365 Day Study Plan," with assigned topics for daily reading and additional study resources. The rotations, led by fellowship-trained faculty, cover all required disciplines within Orthopedics and include one-on-one learning experiences. Didactics encompass various activities such as Chief Lectures, Trauma Rounds, Case Reports, Journal Club, and more.

The program conducts interviews by invitation only during December and January each year. If you are interested in applying to the Wellstar Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program, you can contact Program Coordinator Cheryl Cundy for further information.
