Curriculum and Rotations

The residency curriculum is designed to offer a blend of didactic instruction and practical experience over four years, ensuring that residents are well-prepared for their careers. The core rotations include:

  • PGY-1: Residents spend three months in obstetrics, three months in the clinic, and three months in gynecology, along with rotations in family medicine, ICU, and night float.
  • PGY-2: The focus is on obstetrics (3 months), maternal-fetal medicine (3 months), and gynecology (3 months), with exposure to night float and reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI).
  • PGY-3: This year includes two months in obstetrics and a mix of rotations in clinic, gynecology, urogynecology, gynecologic oncology, and night float.
  • PGY-4: Residents will have additional responsibilities in obstetrics (2 months), clinic (2 months), and gynecology (2 months), along with electives.

Training Environment

Wellstar Kennestone is equipped with a state-of-the-art simulation center that allows residents to practice various surgical techniques, enhancing their procedural skills. Residents also have continuity clinic experiences to manage their own patient panel over the course of the residency, enabling them to establish ongoing relationships with patients.

Research Opportunities

Residents are encouraged to engage in research activities, with opportunities to work on quality improvement projects and clinical research collaborations with Wellstar's Research Institute. This experience not only enhances clinical skills but also contributes to the body of knowledge in women's health.

The residency program is open to both U.S. medical graduates and International Medical Graduates (IMGs), who must meet specific eligibility criteria, including passing scores on licensing exams and proficiency in English.
