The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Morehouse School of Medicine offers a comprehensive training experience for medical professionals dedicated to women's health. The program, initiated in 1997, emphasizes the development of competent surgeons and advocates for women's health, fostering a close-knit community among its faculty and trainees. This unique educational environment not only focuses on clinical excellence but also prioritizes the well-being and work-life balance of residents.
Program Highlights
The residency program boasts an impressive ratio of one resident to one faculty member, ensuring personalized attention and mentorship. With an average of 50 hours worked per week, residents have the time and resources necessary to thrive academically and professionally. The curriculum aligns with the mission to train leaders in women's health who are committed to improving health equity and accessibility.
Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to expose residents to all facets of obstetrics and gynecology, with progressive training throughout the four years.

Research Opportunities
Research is an integral component of the residency, with expectations for residents to engage actively in scholarly activities. The residency program requires residents to complete a case report during intern year and progressively more complex research projects through to graduation. Opportunities for presenting research at local, regional, and national conferences are encouraged.
3Educational Conferences
Residents participate in various didactic and clinical conferences designed to enhance learning. Key components include Grand Rounds, journal clubs, and morbidity and mortality conferences, which stress critical thinking and collaboration among peers and faculty.
4Application Process and Requirements
The program begins accepting applications through ResidencyCAS, requiring successful completion of the USMLE Steps. Candidates must submit three letters of recommendation, including a standardized letter of evaluation. It’s preferable to complete the USMLE exams on the first attempt; however, applicants with strong portfolios may receive consideration even with less than ideal scores.
5Visa Support
The program offers sponsorship for ECFMG-sponsored J-1 visas. Applicants must thoroughly understand the requirements for international medical graduates to be eligible.
6Competitiveness
The residency program is competitive; however, it promotes a friendly environment for DO and IMG candidates. The emphasis on diversity ensures that applicants from varied backgrounds and experiences are welcomed.
7Resident Well-Being and Support
Recognizing the challenges of residency, the program has a strong commitment to the well-being of its residents. Regular retreats are organized to facilitate team-building and personal growth. In addition, residents receive generous leave and professional development allowances.
8Alumni Success
The program boasts a successful track record, with alumni securing positions in competitive fellowship programs across the nation. Alumni often express gratitude for the comprehensive training received and the supportive environment fostered by the faculty and staff.
