Albany Medical Center Program

The Albany Medical Center Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program is one of the oldest programs in the country, established in 1980. The program benefits from the rich academic environment provided by Albany Medical College, a prestigious institution founded in 1839. The training ground for the residency continuity clinic is their thriving primary care practice.

Albany Medical Center, with its 766 beds, is a major referral center serving a wide catchment area, including communities from the Canadian border to the suburbs of New York City. This diverse population provides Med-Peds residents with a broad range of clinical experiences, encountering both common and rare diseases in diverse settings.

Their training program offers a rich variety of educational and professional experiences, preparing residents for careers in primary care, hospitalist medicine, or subspecialty training. The faculty members are actively involved in training and teaching, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for residents.

For applicants, the program requires the submission of various materials through ERAS, including a Curriculum Vitae, Dean's Letter, 3 Current Letters of Recommendation, Medical School Transcript and Diploma/Certificate, Personal Statement, Photograph, and USMLE OR COMLEX Steps I and II scores. The application deadline is December 1st. They sponsor J-1 visas only and do not sponsor H1-B visas.

Applicants eligible for appointment to the program include graduates of accredited medical schools in the United States and Canada, graduates of accredited osteopathic medicine colleges, and graduates of international medical schools meeting specific qualifications outlined on their website.

Albany Medical Center will be conducting virtual interviews in line with recommendations from AAMC and the ACGME. Overall, the program offers a well-rounded training experience in a diverse clinical and academic environment for prospective Med-Peds residents.
