Arnot Ogden Medical Center Program

The Arnot Ogden Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program offers an ACGME-accredited training experience that emphasizes personal development and community engagement. The program is designed to build the necessary skills for residents to excel in both urban and rural healthcare environments. This residency is particularly notable for its Rural Residency Track, catering to those who aim to serve in community-focused settings.

Program Highlights

The residency program requires that applicants have completed COMLEX 1 & 2. Furthermore, international medical graduates (IMGs) must possess a green card or be U.S. citizens. For IMGs out of medical school for more than three years, passing scores on USMLE 1, 2, and 3 on the first attempt are mandatory. The program is competitive and welcomes applications from both DOs and IMGs.

Curriculum Structure

The residency curriculum is structured around 12 blocks per year with a mix of inpatient and outpatient experiences. Here’s a breakdown of the rotations:

PGY-1 Rotations:

• 3 Inpatient Adult Medicine
• 2 Inpatient Pediatric Medicine
• 1 Emergency Medicine
• 2 Obstetrics
• 1 ICU/Pulmonary Medicine
• 1 General Surgery
• 1 Outpatient

Continuity Clinic: 8 hours per week.

PGY-2 Rotations:

• 3 Senior Inpatient Adult Medicine
• 2 Senior Inpatient Pediatric Medicine
• 1 OB/GYN
• 1 WIC/Urgent Care
• 1 Outpatient
• 1 Outpatient Pediatrics
• 3 Medical Selectives, including Dermatology, Cardiology, and Addiction.

Continuity Clinic: 16 hours per week.

PGY-3 Rotations:

• 1 JA Inpatient
• 1 WIC or Outpatient
• 1 Community Medicine
• 1 Radiology
• 1 Podiatry/Wound Care
• 1 Geriatrics
• 1 Orthopedics/Sports Medicine
• 2 Outpatient
• 3 Electives tailored to resident’s interests.

Continuity Clinic: 12 hours per week.

Rotation Sites

The majority of rotations take place at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, a tertiary medical facility known for its high patient satisfaction and broad specialty services. Some rotations may also be conducted at affiliated sites, like St. Joseph's Hospital and Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, providing diverse clinical experiences.

Research Opportunities

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

• Four years or less from medical school graduation.
• Successful completion of COMLEX examinations and passing scores on required USMLE components are mandatory for IMGs who graduated more than three years prior.
