Arnot Ogden Medical Center Program

The Arnot Ogden Medical Center Program in Transitional Year offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare residents for subsequent training in various specialties through its core rotations. This program, which has received ACGME initial accreditation, is set in a community hospital in beautiful upstate New York, providing a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in a supportive environment.

Program Highlights:

• Structured as a one-year program that includes core rotations in family medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, and ICU.
• Accommodates residents matched into PGY 2 for various specialties including anesthesia, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, PM&R, dermatology, osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine, preventative medicine, and radiation oncology.
• Features a maximum of 8 residents per year, with 2 spots reserved for diagnostic radiology trainees.
• Shifts from a 4-week block scheduling to a monthly block scheduling starting July 1, 2023.
• Incorporates a wellness program to maintain the mental and physical health of residents.

The program also prioritizes didactic learning, where residents attend family or emergency medicine didactics depending on their rotation. Curriculum and Rotations

• 1 block of outpatient pediatrics
• 1 block of inpatient pediatrics
• 2 blocks of inpatient family medicine
• 1 block of emergency medicine
• 1 block of ICU
• 2 weeks of family medicine night float & 2 weeks of administrative duties
• 6 blocks of electives

Residents will enjoy 20 personal time off (PTO) days per academic year, which can be taken during their elective blocks.

Training Sites

The main training site for the Transitional Year Program is the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, a 256-bed tertiary care facility that offers a range of specialty services including cardiovascular care, cancer services, women's health, emergency care, and surgical services. Some rotations may also take place at St. Joseph's Hospital, a 295-bed acute care facility, and Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, a rural acute care facility that includes skilled nursing services.

Research and Scholarly Activity

Residents are encouraged to engage in research projects and scholarly activity. The program emphasizes the importance of evidence-based practice and provides access to a wide array of research resources.5

Visa Sponsorship and Application Competitiveness

The program offers sponsorship for various visa types, making it a viable option for international medical graduates who are U.S. citizens or hold a green card.
