Curriculum Overview

• The Family Medicine Center at Foulk Road: Located in North Wilmington, this center serves a largely suburban underserved population.
• Wilmington Primary Care: Situated in downtown Wilmington, this site primarily caters to a high-risk population with diverse and unmet health care needs.
• Westside Family Healthcare: A federally qualified health center providing a community-oriented approach to primary care.

Research and Global Health Opportunities

ChristianaCare emphasizes the relevance of global health within the residency program. Initiatives encourage residents to engage in global health experiences through international rotations in partnership with organizations like the Delaware Health Science Alliance. The Global Health Track enables residents to earn certification and participate in directed global health research and community-oriented service.6

Elective Opportunities

Residents are provided with 24 weeks of elective time integrated into their three-year training, allowing them to tailor their experience according to individual career goals. Elective pathways currently available include Outpatient Family Medicine, Sports Medicine Fellowship, and Global Health, among others. Specific pathways can be further customized based on resident interests.4

Competitiveness and Applicant Profile

The Family Medicine Residency Program at ChristianaCare is considered to be competitive, welcoming both MD and DO graduates, as well as International Medical Graduates (IMGs). Special application requirements may include being within a certain timeframe from graduation or having successive attempts on the USMLE Step exams reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
