Eastern Virginia Medical School Program

The Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Residency program at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) provides comprehensive training for residents to graduate as skilled otolaryngologists. Residents will spend a significant portion of their training at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, gaining experience in trauma, head and neck oncology, and various ENT disorders.

The program also includes rotations at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Sentara Leigh Hospital, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Bon Secours Surgery Center at Virginia Beach, and Sentara Ambulatory Care Clinic, offering a diverse clinical experience.

The application process for the Otolaryngology program starts in the fall and ends in early February, with interviews conducted during this period. It is recommended to apply through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) and take the USMLE Step 2 exam in the fall of the senior year. The program also offers a four-week clerkship for interested applicants.

Residents at EVMS receive a thorough education, including rotations in various specialties within otolaryngology. The curriculum covers areas such as head and neck surgery, reconstructive surgery, rhinology, and laryngology, among others. Residents participate in educational activities like grand rounds, case presentations, journal clubs, and annual medical missions.
