Good Samaritan University Hospital Program

The Family Medicine Residency Program at Good Samaritan University Hospital is a comprehensive three-year program designed to train family practitioners in treating a diverse patient population. The program offers a wide range of experiences, including rotations in Family Medicine continuity clinics, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, and various electives. Continuity of care is emphasized through a partnership with Sun River Health Martin Luther King Jr. health center.

Residents engage in various academic activities such as journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, patient rounds, and more. As senior residents, they provide guidance to interns and students and are involved in research activities to enhance their skills. The program focuses on creating well-rounded and skilled family medicine experts.

The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and has a competitive salary and benefits package. There are six positions available per year for a total of 18 residents in the program.

Residents have the opportunity to work with medical students from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) during their rotations. Upon completion of the program, graduates pursue various career paths such as primary care, private practice, hospital medicine, urgent care, and fellowship programs.

The program requires residents to participate in scholarly activities, including research and quality improvement projects. Formal academic time is dedicated to board reviews, case-based presentations, faculty and subspecialist lectures, and more. Additionally, residents engage in ongoing education through guest lectures, patient rounds, and other teaching activities.

The program also offers electives at affiliated sites to ensure a well-rounded experience for residents. Some of the electives include Allergy and Immunology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, and more. Residents are encouraged to participate in research and scholarly projects to meet program requirements.
