The Northwest Healthcare Tucson Transitional Year Residency Program is a newly ACGME-accredited one-year multidisciplinary medicine training program located in beautiful Southwest Arizona. The program aims to provide quality fundamental clinical and educational experiences, preparing residents for their subsequent training years. The curriculum is well-rounded, including collaborative relationships with advanced standing programs, timely feedback, mentorship opportunities, and a culture of inclusion.
Residents in the program will train at Northwest Healthcare – Tucson, a 300-bed acute care hospital with inpatient facilities and various primary care outpatient clinics. The curriculum consists of thirteen four-week blocks, covering internal medicine, critical care medicine, outpatient medicine, and emergency medicine. Additionally, residents have the opportunity to complete five elective rotations, such as anesthesiology, cardiology, gastroenterology, and rheumatology.
The program supports residents in studying and taking USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX-USA Level 3, covering the cost of the registration for the first exam attempt during the transitional year. Residents receive four weeks of vacation and up to two weeks of paid sick leave.
The program requires applicants to submit various supporting documents through ERAS, including a copy of their diploma, official medical school transcript, letters of recommendation, personal statement, photo, official test transcripts, and ECFMG certification if applicable.
Northwest Healthcare Tucson's Transitional Year Residency Program participates in the NRMP Match for all PGY1 positions. The program is committed to selecting and matching residents who enjoy leadership roles and contributing to an inclusive clinical and educational environment.
