Loyola University Medical Center Program

The Psychiatry Residency Program at Loyola Medicine is structured as a comprehensive four-year categorical training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Program Curriculum

The residents participate in a variety of clinical rotations throughout their residency:

• PGY-1: Includes rotations in Internal Medicine and Emergency Psychiatry at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, where residents manage medical crises intersecting with psychiatric conditions.
• PGY-2: Focuses on Consult-Liaison Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, among other specialties.3
• PGY-3: Residents develop outpatient continuity clinics, allowing them to manage long-term care while engaging in psychotherapeutic practices.
• PGY-4: Residents can choose elective rotations to hone special skills and prepare for practices in areas of specific interest.

Clinical practice sites include Loyola University Medical Center, the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, and several state facilities, providing diverse interactions with patient populations.2

Didactic Training

The program features a well-structured didactic curriculum that spans the entire residency, with a focus on progressive learning each year. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) are welcome, though candidates must be ECFMG-eligible.1 J1 visa sponsorship is available for eligible international applicants, while H1B visas are not sponsored.1

To apply, candidates must submit applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) with supporting documents including a personal statement, medical school transcripts, and three letters of recommendation, ideally including one from a Psychiatry Department Chair.1
