Mountain Area Health Education Center (Linville) Program
Psychiatry - Linville, NC | ACGME Code: 4003600001
The Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) Psychiatry Residency program aims to train exemplary psychiatrists to serve rural and underserved areas in Western North Carolina. The program provides extensive clinical experiences in inpatient and outpatient settings, including specialized rotations such as child and adolescent, geriatrics, consultation/liaison, and substance use disorder.
First-year residents gain experience in various inpatient psychiatry settings, while second-year residents focus on outpatient care, including specialized clinics and elective opportunities. Third-year residents deepen their skills through specialized rotations before completing basic requirements, which allows them to fast-track into a child/adolescent fellowship if desired. Fourth-year residents engage in forensics, consultation/liaison, and integrated care clinics, with elective time to tailor their learning experience.
All residents have protected time each week for didactics, including journal clubs, case conferences, and research presentations. The program emphasizes evidence-based care and interprofessional collaboration. The MAHEC residency program supports a diverse and inclusive environment, actively recruiting individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
Applicants are required to provide a complete ERAS application, including a CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation, medical school transcripts, and USMLE or COMLEX exam scores. International medical graduates must meet specific requirements and have a valid visa option to participate in the program.
For more information regarding the application process, questions can be directed to the Residency Program Coordinator at [email protected]. The program website does not specify whether MAHEC supports visas for international medical graduates.
