MAHEC Asheville Family Medicine Residency Program Overview

The MAHEC Asheville Family Medicine Residency Program is a community-focused, full-spectrum training program located in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. As a not-for-profit residency program, it primarily serves urban and rural underserved populations in the Western North Carolina region. Curriculum

Residents engage in a variety of specialty rotations including community medicine, women's health, pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health, and more.

• Family Medicine at the Family Health Center
• Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Psychiatry rotations
• Pediatric and Obstetric care
• Integrated Behavioral Medicine

The curriculum is designed to meet emerging ACGME requirements and incorporates innovative teaching methods, including a flipped classroom model and hands-on simulation training at the state-of-the-art Simulation Center.

Rotations and Training Sites

Residents train primarily at the Mission Hospital, a comprehensive facility offering extensive medical and surgical specialties and recognized for excellence in patient care. In addition, the Family Health Centers serve as vital sites for outpatient practice, where residents will care for a diverse patient population.

MAHEC residents also participate in outreach clinics and engage in community service initiatives as part of their training, gaining real-world experience in addressing the healthcare needs of the local population.

Research Opportunities
