Kingsport Family Medicine Residency Program Overview

The Kingsport Family Medicine Residency Program, part of the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Quillen College of Medicine, offers a comprehensive residency experience tailored to meet the educational needs of residents while serving the local community in Appalachia. Established in 1975, the program has successfully trained over 200 residents. It is recognized for its commitment to community-focused medical education, aiming to improve health outcomes, particularly among underserved populations.

This program is unique as it is the only residency in the region that has osteopathically recognized training. The dedicated faculty works closely with residents, providing support and guidance as they transition from interns to independent family physicians.

The main training site for residents is the ETSU Health Family Medicine clinic, which is adjacent to Holston Valley Medical Center. This newly renovated facility features modern examination and procedure rooms equipped for a variety of common family medicine practices.
