Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) offers a newly ACGME-accredited community-based Psychiatry Residency Program, designed to cultivate outstanding community psychiatrists through a focus on collaborative healthcare. This residency program is the result of strategic partnerships with Avita Community Partners, Peachford Hospital, and various Northeast Georgia Health System integrated care clinics, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience.

Program Overview

The primary goal of the Psychiatry Residency Program at NGMC is to provide the necessary skills, knowledge, experience, and training to develop proficient community psychiatrists. As a new initiative, the program actively seeks pioneering residents eager to embrace community psychiatry and contribute to the establishment of a robust training experience.

Curriculum and Rotations

The residency curriculum is structured to include diverse aspects of psychiatric training through various rotations that span across multiple locations. Each academic year will incorporate various clinical exposures designed to enhance both practical and theoretical knowledge. In the first half of each year, residents will benefit from structured didactic sessions that are protected, allowing them to engage fully in scholarly activities.

Protected Didactics

Training Sites

NGMC's Psychiatry Residency includes a variety of training opportunities across seven treatment facilities located within the Georgia region. Application Requirements

The program is highly competitive and open to both DOs and IMGs. Candidates should be mindful of the following application specifics:

• Submission of applications must be through the ERAS system.
• All applicants must have completed both parts of USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 or Comlex Part 1 and 2 before starting the program.
• International medical graduates must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and can be sponsored for a J1 Visa only.
