This program is the Public Health/Preventive Medicine Residency Program offered by NYC Health & Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. The two-year program combines field experience at a large health department with studies towards a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree.

Graduates of the residency program are eligible for Board Certification in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine. Throughout the program, residents gain epidemiologic, administrative, and clinical skills aimed at understanding and preventing disease, disability, and death at the individual and group levels. They participate in applied public health projects, weekly seminars, and educational activities at the NYC Health Department and City University of New York.

Applicants must have completed at least one year of clinical training in a residency program accredited by specific bodies and be eligible for a full and unrestricted New York State license. Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. and Canada generally require three years of clinical residency in the U.S. to qualify for a license.

Residents receive full tuition and select fee reimbursement for the MPH degree at CUNY School of Public Health, along with city employee benefits. The program also supports graduates in application and examination fees for the American Board of Preventive Medicine Certification Exam if taken during the final year of residency.

To apply, applicants should submit various materials, including a CV, a detailed statement about their interest in public health and preventive medicine, transcripts, exam scores, letters of recommendation, and additional materials illustrating interests and activities. The program participates in the ACPM Standardized Acceptance Process.
