The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Riverside University Health System (RUHS) aims to provide a comprehensive training experience to develop competent, ethical Orthopaedic surgeons dedicated to high standards of practice. The program offers three categorical positions per year, with subspecialty exposure in Total Joints and Reconstruction, Sports Medicine, Hand and Upper Extremity, Trauma, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Shoulder and Elbow, and Spine.

The RUHS program is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association and received ACGME Initial Accreditation in 2017. Applicants must be graduates of U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine accredited by COCA. The application deadline for the program is October 28, 2022, and applications are only accepted through ERAS. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program.

The selection criteria for prospective residents include academic performance, Board exam scores, research experience, and strong letters of recommendation. Completing an audition rotation is encouraged. Interviews for the program will be conducted on December 2, 2022, and January 6, 2023, via Zoom.

During their training, residents will rotate through various clinical services, including orthopaedic trauma, hand/upper extremity surgery, spine surgery, sports medicine/reconstructive surgery, total joint replacement surgery, pediatric orthopaedic, and ambulatory surgery. Residents will engage in clinical patient evaluation, surgical management, and participate in educational activities such as clinical teaching rounds, journal clubs, and self-assessment exams.

For residents who match in the program, additional documentation requirements include official medical school transcripts, diploma copies, social security card, driver's license, and certifications. Failure to fulfill all pre-employment requirements may result in withdrawal from the training program.
