The Rush University Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program offers a dynamic training environment with an emphasis on community, both inward and outward. The program is built on the foundation of its categorical Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency programs. Rush University Medical Center attracts a diverse patient population from various cultural, ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds.
Application requirements for the Rush Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program include a submission through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and three to four letters of recommendation. Successful applicants typically demonstrate diversity of experiences, an outstanding academic record, and excellence in clinical medicine. Candidates selected for an interview will receive email notifications between October and January.
The program curriculum is designed to meet the guidelines for Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Training Programs, providing a balance between experiences in primary and tertiary care, inpatient and outpatient settings, and flexibility to pursue special interests. Rotations include both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, with residents switching between the two specialties every three months during the intern year and more frequently in subsequent years.
Residents at Rush University Medical Center have opportunities for longitudinal ambulatory care experience through the RUSH Adult and Pediatric Primary Care clinic. The program also offers educational components such as noon conferences, grand rounds, board reviews, simulation lab series, and journal clubs for Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residents.
