The Adult Neurology Residency Program at Rutgers Health New Jersey Medical School aims to train outstanding clinical neurologists in a collaborative and inclusive environment. The program offers a four-year categorical training program with the preliminary year spent in the Internal Medicine Residency Program and the remaining three years focused on Neurology. They accept five PGY-1 residents annually, with 60% of training at University Hospital and 40% at the VA. Applications are processed through ERAS, and participation in the NRMP is required.
International Medical Graduates aiming to join the program must have U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, a valid ECFMG certificate with CSA examination, and may need ECFMG sponsorship as a J1 Exchange Visitor.
The curriculum provides extensive clinical responsibilities, weekly conferences, lectures, and rotations covering various aspects of Neurology. The learning methods include didactic, case-based, and problem-based approaches. Residents participate in Continuity Clinic, engage in various electives, and gain valuable experience in different rotations, such as General Neurology, Stroke Neurology, and Emergency Department Consult.
Residents take on increasing responsibilities each year, ultimately preparing them to efficiently diagnose and manage a wide range of neurologic conditions. The program aims to develop residents' clinical and research interests for successful independent practice.
