University of Alabama Medical Center (Selma Dallas County) Program

The University of Alabama Medical Center (Selma Dallas County) Program, known as UAB Selma Family Medicine Residency Program, has a long history of training compassionate family physicians in Central Alabama. This program has been operating for over 40 years and is one of the few truly rural family medicine residency programs in the country. The program offers a unique combination of resources from a world-class academic medical center and hands-on community experience. Residents are exposed to a diverse patient population with various medical needs, as Selma serves as a referral center for the surrounding counties.

Application to the UAB Selma Family Medicine Residency Program requires candidates to have passed Step 1 and Step 2 exams in two attempts, with no minimum score specified. Graduates must have completed medical school within five years of application, and international applicants need a valid ECFMG certificate. U.S. clinical experience is also expected. The program offers six positions each year for a three-year program, filled through the National Resident Matching Program via ERAS.

The program supports H-1 and J-1 visas for international medical graduates. Applicants are required to submit a Curriculum Vitae, Personal Statement, USMLE or COMLEX scores, three Letters of Recommendation, Dean's Letter, and a copy of their Medical School diploma. International Medical Graduates must also provide an ECFMG certificate.
